There’s nothing like waking up to waves crashing against the shore in your lighthouse vacation rental. These accommodations stand apart from your typical hotel stay with unique views, comfortable rooms and top-notch amenities for a memorable getaway.
A favorite in Connecticut, the lighthouse suite at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina is available from May through October, and owner Jane Engdall says it’s always booked solid from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Stay here and enjoy a view that looks out over where the Connecticut River meets Long Island Sound, plus access to the resort’s 9-hole golf course, outstanding restaurant, clubhouse & pool complex.
If you’re looking for something a bit more isolated, this Victorian “sparkplug” lighthouse is completely surrounded by the ocean in Fox Island Thorofare (you need to take a boat to reach it) and sleeps up to six. It’s a great place to relax, read and enjoy the stunning scenery.
Another popular lighthouse accommodation in California is this former hostel converted to private rentals that can sleep up to 10 people. You’ll have access to a fully equipped kitchen, private outdoor dining area with gorgeous views and more. You can also walk just north of the lighthouse to some easily accessible tide pools for a fun beach day and be sure to stop by downtown Pescadero or Pie Ranch for some delicious local eats.
There are two bedrooms in this rental, both with Queen beds and flat-screen TVs, plus an outdoor hot tub that the whole family can enjoy. Spend your days on the deck watching commercial boats and trollers pass by or go out for some whale-watching on the water. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to see some sea otters or sea lions!
