The Pensacola Lighthouse is one of the most well known landmarks in Florida. This imposing structure was built in 1859 and sits on the grounds of Naval Air Station Pensacola. Its history ranges from a stationed lightship to the American Civil War to present day tourism and it remains an active aid to navigation.
Visiting the Pensacola Lighthouse is an experience that is more than just a tour of a historic building. It combines maritime history with nature, adventure and the opportunity to witness some amazing aerial feats.
You’ll have the option to climb 177 steps up to the top of the tower, where you can see three historic forts, Pensacola Bay, and more. Then, you can visit the Maritime Museum and the Keepers’ Quarters to learn about the history of this incredibly beautiful structure.
There are also some fun and interesting exhibits, including one that shows you how the lighthouse beacon is lit. The museum is a mix of educational displays and a recreated living area that brings to life the lives of the women who tended this landmark throughout history!
