If you want to create a fun lighthouse for your front yard, you can turn a clay pot into one. You can use a large plant pot and cement it together, paint the inside white, and add a lantern to make your lighthouse look more real. If you want to make one that is a little more unique, you can paint the inside of the pot with decorative accent colors.
You can also use seashells, starfish, and seagulls to decorate your lighthouse. Adding a wire net around it gives it a nautical feel and shows that it is located close to the ocean. For a more rustic look, you can also use a mini picket fence around it. You can get the whole family involved in this project, although you shouldn’t let your children handle the clay pots.
To paint the pots, you will need multiple coats of primer. It is best to apply the primer in a well-ventilated area. First, stack the pots so that they do not overlap each other. Next, divide each pot into equal sections for painting the stripes. You should have 2 sections for red and two for white, so you can paint them accordingly.
If you want to avoid using clay pots, you can also use terracotta pots. Terracotta pots are heavy when filled with soil. For a lighter option, you can fill the bottom with plastic bottles. However, terracotta pots are porous and will crack easily if dropped.
