The Ar-Men lighthouse, located in the Iroise Sea, is one of the oldest lighthouses in the United States. It was built in 1787 while Maine was a part of Massachusetts. The masons who built it were Jonathan Bryant and John Nichols. They completed the building on January 10, 1791. George Washington appointed Joseph K. Greenleaf as its first keeper. It has since remained in operation and is considered one of the most beautiful and picturesque lighthouses in the country.
