Locals in the town of lighthouse Pointe in Nassau County, Long Island, are up in arms after a group of out-of-town tourists “appropriated” the name for their dance school fundraiser. Apparently these out-of-towners thought it would be funny to name their fundraiser “Lighthouse Pointe Hoa.” I guess that is one way to get people excited about your fundraiser – pretending that the entire town is in some sort of circus. It is actually an insult to many in the community. These poor townspeople do not have any money and were not consulted prior to the fundraiser being called “Lighthouse Pointe Hoa.”
Residents of the town of lighthouse pointe in Nassau County, Long Island, are upset because they feel as if the name was stolen from them and did not give their permission to the fundraiser. These people have asked the Town of Lighthouse Pointe Homeowners Association to change the name of the association’s fundraising dinner from “Lighthouse Pointe Dinner: The Royal Society of Dancing” to something more flattering like “The Royal Society of Dancing at the Lighthouse Pointe Club.” However, the homeowners association president has declined to change the name and instead has suggested that the fundraisers be called “Dancing at the Lighthouse Pointe.” I believe this is short changing the townspeople because everyone in town is known by the term lighthouse point.
I asked the town of lighthouse pointe association president why they had not told the residents before and he stated that the board members had not been informed and that they would be calling the members shortly to find out what they had decided. I asked if the property manager had not been informed and he said no, he hadn’t been informed either. Apparently someone else on the property management team failed to get the information from the association president and now the property manager is stuck with a fundraiser that he did not start. I certainly hope this story is not true and I hope everyone involved can get along well. Please consider all this and think on it.
